TABLE SKITTLES

GIVE IT A WHIRL

Table Skittles, often called Bar Skittles, is frustratingly fun. Instead of throwing a ball, you’re swinging one on a chain around a central pole to knock down the pins on the platform (watch out for people!). It requires a delicate touch and a bit of spin doctoring to get the arc just right. It’s the perfect pub-style game for when space is tight, but the competitive spirit is high!

HOW TO PLAY TABLE SKITTLES

To play Table Skittles, set up the nine miniature pins on the platform. Then you swing the ball on the end of the chain in an arc around the central pole, aiming to knock over as many pins as possible on its return flight. The ball shouldn’t go around twice though, so don’t forget to catch it on the way back. You get three swings per turn. The trick is the hook; swinging it straight rarely works, so you’ve got to find that perfect circular path. If you knock them all down after 1 swing (called a floorer) or 2 swings (a stack), they are reset, so the maximum score in one turn is 27, but that level of play takes some practice. To begin with, you’ll do well to score 9.
